Dusk-to-dawn photocell controllers

Our enclosed photocell controllers switch suitable lighting loads on and off as ambient light changes. They provide automatic dusk-to-dawn operation for illuminated signs, lighting and other roadside equipment.

The range offers separate 24 V DC, 48 V DC, 48 V AC and 230 V AC versions. Photocells are available with a NEMA three-pin socket and 1 m flying leads, with a screw-terminal socket, or as a photocell only without either socket option.

Key features

Automatic lighting control

Typical 55 lux turn-on and 110 lux turn-off thresholds provide separate switching levels for dusk and daylight.

Choice of supply versions

Dedicated AC and DC variants allow the appropriate controller to be selected for the installation.

Choice of connection options

Available with a three-pin socket and 1 m flying leads, a screw-terminal socket, or as a photocell only for an existing compatible socket.

Enclosed construction

The documented 24 V DC and 230 V AC versions use a UV-stabilised polycarbonate cover and achieve IP67 when the socket is sealed.

Integration and available options

We offer separate AC and DC supply versions, with support to match the controller to the load and switching requirements of your equipment. The specifications above distinguish the 24 V DC and 230 V AC versions; detailed information is also available for the 48 V options.

The photocell can be supplied with a three-pin socket and 1 m flying leads, with a screw-terminal socket, or on its own for use with an existing compatible socket. We can provide the connection and mounting details for the chosen arrangement. The IP67 rating depends on the socket being correctly sealed.

The controller provides automatic on/off switching at dusk and daylight. We can discuss its use alongside separate dimming equipment, as well as low-standby operation, surge protection and any required fault behaviour. Dusk-to-dawn switching is not itself a safety function.

Our integration support includes sensor placement, drainage, impact and enclosure considerations, together with the UKCA, CE and RoHS information applicable to the controller version and destination market.

Options and customisation

We can help select the supply version, switching arrangement and socket option for your equipment. The range supports both new installations and photocell-only replacement of a unit in a compatible socket.

For equipment that needs a compact sensor mounted through the enclosure panel, our mini photocell provides a separate wire-in option.
